       Semarang is the fifth oldest city after Jakarta. Semarang 
is identical with old buildings of historical heritage, such as 
Lawang Sewu and Tugu Muda. However, behind the 
magnificent buildings and old monuments store various tragic 
stories in the context of fighting for Indonesian independence. Many heroes have died on the battlefield. However, their 
enthusiasm will not subside, for the sake of the founding of this great nation. Various events have occurred as this historical 
story of independence rolled on. Various ceasefires have claimed the lives of the Indonesian people against the invaders.
For the sake of independence, the people of Indonesia made such a big sacrifice for the country.
         The Five Day Battle in Semarang is one of a series of battles and resistance of the Indonesian people
in maintaining the independence status of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia. The battle that occurred on 
October 15, 1945 and ended on October 20, 1945 occurred between residents of Semarang against the 
Japanese army. This battle is called the Five Day Resistance in Semarang because of the length of the battle 
for five days.
         The Five Days Battle in Semarang occurred when the anger of the youths was ignited by the news of 
the death of Dr. Kariadi by the Japanese army where dr. At that time Kariadi was traveling to the Siranda 
Reservoir to confirm news that Japan had poisoned the water source. This battle escalated when on October 
17, 1945, the Japanese army announced a ceasefire, but also secretly carried out attacks on various villages. 
On October 19, 1945, intense and intense battles continued to occur throughout the city of Semarang. The 
battle that lasted for five days killed 2,000 Semarang residents and 850 Japanese soldiers.
               In order to commemorate the spirit of the struggle of the youth and other city fighters in Semarang, 
a monument called Tugu Muda was built. The Tugu Muda Monument was built on November 10, 1950 and 
was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Ir. Soekarno on May 20, 1953.
